The Deluge

If you're following the weather here in northern California you know that we are having rain--lots of it! We woke up to no electricity this morning. After breakfast we decided to go to Napa and buy a generator because so many people had lost power we had no idea how long we'd be without. Home Depot didn't have any but Al bought the last one at a lumber store. It was around 3 p.m. by the time he got it running.

In the meantime, I took all the food from the refrigerator freezer and put it in the garage freezer. Then I took all the cold food out and put it in a Rubbermaid bin to store in the garage. We're leaving everything there until the rain stops. When darkness fell I lit candles and we tried reading by them. They really don't provide much light. Some time after 6 p.m. the power came on.

Since we live on top of a hill we're not in danger of flooding. While driving in the valley water was running down from the hills everywhere and the Napa River was filling up. Water ran over the highway in places too. We've had very high winds all day and it's still raining and will all night. There are many tree limbs down and debris in the roads. Tomorrow we're to be hit by another storm with cold air. The report was that we'd have thunder and lightning with possible hail. Our rain gauge before dark said 4 1/4 inches. We'll see what the next 24 hours brings.
